The Fisher King Video Tribute (Stunning! Must see.)

I made a video tribute for The Fisher King film mixed with the song “Under Pressure” by David Bowie.

No other artist re-mix of the song (and there are many) or any visual artistic work represents either the film or the music better than THIS video inspired by their work.

This video also represents Robin’s tender spirit and prayer for compassion quite well.  After Robin’s passing, Terry Gilliam even acknowledged that Robin gave insane passion to the creation of the slashed and torn scene.

What is incredible about this choice of music is that “Under Pressure” was featured in TWO of Robin’s other films but NOT in this one.  (Bowie and Queen released the song in 1981 which was 10 years before the film The Fisher King.  However, this song by Queen did not show up in Robin’s films until the World’s Greatest Dad in 2009 and Happy Feet 2 in 2011.)

I wish Robin and David Bowie saw this tribute before they passed.  I hope that Terry Gilliam sees it and anyone that was cast or crew on the above mentioned productions see it.

Tribute film for The Fisher King.  Warning: Graphic violence at 1m30.  Created for discussion and educational purposes.  Note how well the scenes fit with the music.  It is STUNNING.  The frames  are intentionally choppy to symbolize a dream and memories which are typically fragmented.  This may give the idea that since it is a dream, you still have a choice.

The choice of using film to convey values and inspire goes far beyond the director and the actor.

The Fisher King did something RARELY seen in films; it also acknowledges that network executives hold enormous power in what the public will eventually consume with their minds and hearts.

This video is a prayer to everyone in the entertainment industry to choose your words well and live in compassion… with divine grace.

THIS IS THE HOLY GRAIL.

Comedy Day ~ An SF Legend Since 1981!

This event happens in September every year at Golden Gate Park. (Here’s a map and this is the Comedy Day Website)

This is a ((FREE)) event with 5 hours of comedy to thousands of people.  If you love this event please support it directly, give some love to sponsors and/or BUY YOUR PICNIC LUNCH AND DRINKS AT THE EVENT.   Robin used to be a big supporter of the event from the beginning and now we have get more creative to keep the event going.  (See vendors / menu below) rw award2

Over the past 35 years more than 750 comedians have performed for this event, so my apologies to those fabulous talents not specifically acknowledged, but this website is about Robin’s work specifically.

The goal is not to “obsess” on a cool dude, it is about understanding values, a way of life and finding grace in it all.  Life is challenging, choices are hard and finding grace and humor to rise above it is something he did extra-ordinarily well and inspired many.

Robin received a well deserved award in 2009 for his legendary support of Comedy Day.  Presented by Debi Durst

"City of San Francisco does hereby declare it does not know what SF to deserve him... but as soon as it becomes clear, we plan on doing it again.... whereas without him the sourdough would be less sour, the fog a little thinner and..."

Below is the last known video of Robin’s performances at Comedy Day in 2011 with Rick Overton.  This topics covered include lots of what Robin does best; dick jokes.  These tech jokes were some of the best that I’ve seen from him.

Comedy Day officially started on July 11, 1981 at the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse (a.k.a. The Bandshell).  Comedy Day is the original, longest-running, standup comedy festival in the world. Montreal’s “Just For Laughs Festival,” which debuted in 1983 comes in second. However, Comedy Day stands out from all other comedy festivals, not only because it’s held outdoors, but because it’s FREE!

There are not many early videos, but the one below is from 1984 and apparently this one was legendary.  There’s lots of familiar faces here.

And this is my favorite videos of Comedy Day.  The love and camaraderie is over-whelmly heart warming.  Year after year they keep coming back and creating more joy with each other and each person that comes to the event.

May we suggest leaving your picnic basket at home? (Vendors/sponsors change annually)

This great annual event is mostly paid for by sales of food and drink on the day of the event. So by planning your meal here, you are supporting the future success of this event.

Sharing in his success was important to him

Robin Williams was always very gracious in giving his friends opportunities in the projects he worked on and finding other ways to promote their skills.

He also helped nurture the creation of Comic Relief and Comedy Day events that I believe facilitated lifelong friendships within a vibrant and connected community of comedians, writers, actors and directors.

David Letterman’s tribute after his passing gives you an appreciation this:

The following is rare 1980s footage of Robin with director Howard Storm to promote his directing skills after the conclusion of Mork and Mindy.

In the video, Williams was purposefully being difficult to work with and not listening to directions from Storm to prove the point that, “If he can work with me… he can work with anyone!”

WhatDreamsMayCome.org is echoing Robin William’s spiritual legacy to bring MORE kindness to the world.

Ode to the Pan. They really loved him. ~ BANGERANG!

The focus of this post is on the different styles of music from fans of the movie Hook.  There is some really great tributes here.

Skrillex does a BANG up job of helping you finding your happy thought with music that makes you want to dance!

This is a Coldplay song Clocks that is mixed with video from the movie quite effectively.

For my pals who enjoy making videos, if it inspires you, here’s some kibble.   This has amazing vocals and piano.  It has potential and needs visuals.

A dear friend and fan in Spain has done some very classy tributes for Robin. Click here to see two tributes she did. One of which is a tribute to Robin in the movie Hook.

On another note, if you want to learn about the history of the making of Hook with some IMPRESSIVE detail, then take a look at this.to live2c

I’m so grateful for what Robin created with his friends.  It inspires joy and hope for humanity that gives us reason to dream, even when we are wide awake.

…see you in my dreams.

Could you be a hero? These stories are heartwarming.

9/11 stirred profound sentiments from foreign relations policies to the acts of heroism in the aftermath of the attacks.  We chose to focus on the acts of kindness and compassion.

Caring people stepped forward to save lives and recover.  We need people like this for us to thrive throughout the entire world.  Could you be one of those kinds of heroes in your own community?

Below are examples of ordinary people, being extra-ordinary.

Everyone can be a hero.  (This one left me with tears of joy for what is possible)

September 11th the largest boat lift in American history occurred and half a million people were evacuated from Manhattan in 9 hours.

How did this happen? What heroism made this possible? Do you have it in you?  The following is a documentary short film, BOATLIFT, narrated by Tom Hanks.

We encourage you to take a moment to view it and remember the acts of heroism, large and small, displayed on this day that we will never forget.

Head of Security at the World Trade Center

Rick Rescorla was the head of security for Morgan Stanley since 1987, and from the first day on the job he predicted a disaster like the 9/11 terrorist attack.

He found breaches in security and made very serious attempts to improve security measures to protect two of the tallest buildings in the world.

When the attack occurred Rescorla climbed the stairs of the towers over and over in an attempt to save as many people as he could, but he never left the towers.  He was supposed to be on vacation that day.   Saved hundreds of lives before dying in the tragedy that he knew all along was coming.

He is one heck of a great human being that should never be forgotten.  The world would be a much better place if we all could look out for each other.  We are 1.

I could be a hero too.  I am risking it all to help you protect your home, your life savings and loved ones….. BUT I need support to do this.  Will people hear me before it is too late?

Like Rick Rescorla, I take disaster prevention VERY seriously.  I don’t feel insurance companies do.  They are into profit maximization more than they are your well-being, so we must  gather our knowledge and experience to help each other.  We can do this!

Good Morning NASA!

Going out of your way to get into trouble can be FUN!  In 1988 NASA is entertained by Robin Williams’ with a wake up broadcast to the astronauts orbiting Earth.

The actor’s introduction references his 1987 role in “Good Morning Vietnam” which then  led into a space shuttle-themed song to the tune of the “Green Acres” TV show.

The mission was the first launched since the Challenger disaster in 1986.   Five lucky astronauts received this UN-traditional wake-up call on their first day in orbit on a mission to deploy a satellite that supports numerous other NASA satellites and human spacecraft, including the International Space Station.

Robin spread his love far and wide in ways that always surprised and delighted… boosted spirits and made the world a better place.

The legacy of Andy Kaufman lives on, uhm… I mean Comic Relief

In 1986 Comic Relief, a charity organization was founded with a mission to raise funds to help the homeless.

Performances ranged from comedy to live music and speeches, some of which was intended to enlighten people about the realities of the homeless.

Comedians Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg were the hosts of the show and performed with hundreds of other comedians, celebrities, and occasional politicians.

Many beautiful friendships were formed over decades while producing this show to help the most vulnerable people in society.

Here is the opening sketch from the first show in 1986

In 1990 Robin, Billy and Whoopie offered a testimony to Congress for the homeless

At 8m35, Robin says the one thing that echoes in my heart every day and probably still does with all those who supported Comic Relief:  “You can’t keep picking people up, you have to stop them from falling.”

Favorite Sketches from Comic Relief

“The Introduction from Hell” is one of my favorite moments of Comic Relief 5, which I think overall was their best year.  Energetically it just felt like their hearts were on fire and everyone was doing really great.

There are dozens of sketches that we’d love to share, including one from Billy playing a war veteran.  It is very memorable.  If this website continues, it would be nice to show this and many other sketches.

Billy and Robin sing about getting older.  I don’t remember what year this was, but it is quite funny.

Behind the Scenes

For the friends of Comic Relief that gave their personal time and resources to this effort, we thought you would like some behind the scenes footage to see your friends once again.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Here is some behind the scenes footage for making advertisements for the Comic Relief shows.  (It’s fun to see raw footage!)

This Incredible Legacy Deserves a Monument in DC

I’d like to see a permanent monument in Washington DC to honor this incredible trio and their friends.  As leaders in the entertainment industry, they offered a glowing example to future generations that others can follow to make the world a better place.

They knew the homeless are the most vulnerable people in society that have no social voice, or worse are abused for their status.  Homelessness can happen thru circumstance that is no fault of their own.  To have THAT level of empathy and compassion is truly extra-ordinary.

The Pursuit of Holy Grail

This was a theme of Robin’s work and personal life for decades for about compassion for all, especially the vulnerable and teamwork.  He respected all forms of life.  It was quite apparent in everything he did, including the projects mentioned here.

Earth Day 1990 Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams did a remarkable skit worth sharing.  The really do represent “every lawyer” and “every person.”

Lawyers don’t represent every person, only the people with money to pay them for their slick tongues.  They lather their bullshit all over you and then shove money in the judge’s pie holes.

BRAVO Dustin and Robin!  You guys knocked it out of the park!!

Robin wasn’t an active environmentalist, but he certainly cared about it very much.  I think he tried to address the problem with favoring teamwork and legacies over the pursuit of greed and profit.

These values were quite evident in Jumanji, Fisher King and the Night at the Museum series.  If you haven’t seen Night at the Museum 3, I highly recommend it.  I laughed my ass off at the brilliant double entendres and more importantly, this movie sheds light on the Holy Grail that has been presented in Robin’s other films too.

Some projects in our community are so big that they cannot be accomplished alone.  Together we are more capable, compassionate and better able to help each other thrive.

Below is an ENORMOUS project led by the Prince of Wales to slow down the dramatic deforestation of our most precious biological resources in the world.  Robin appeared in an online campaign for the project in 2009.

Robin Williams was fully behind the cause and commented at the time:

“There are so many things in the rainforest that must be preserved - I believe it is an exquisite part of the world. It needs us and, much more importantly, we need it. Please help.”

1978, The magical soul of Robin Williams is revealed to the world

He blew our minds and opened hearts when he hit the TV airwaves with Mork and Mindy.

This interview is recorded in July 1978 before the sitcom hit the airwaves.

Pam Dawber is adorable and such a good match for Robin’s high energy.  She seems to be very grounded, practical and traditional, so whenever Robin launched into the stratosphere, she could help pull him back down to earth.

During the 4 seasons that Mork and Mindy aired Robin went from having a relatively unobserved life to being one of the most recognizably loved, living people on the planet.

That experience came with some very big challenges.  Mork and Mindy, “The Unauthorized Version” retells the story quite well and gives people a chance to feel what it must have been like walk in his shoes.

Mork meets Robin Williams was one of Robin’s favorite episodes on Mork and Mindy because it was therapeutic for him to share what his life was like playing Mork from Robin’s point of view. (Season 3, Episode 14).

  • 11:55 Robin Williams finds out where Mork keeps his bees.  LOL!
  • 20:32 Mork tells Orson what he thinks of stardom.

There has never been and will never be anyone like Robin.  The best that we can do is to remember his sweet soul, keep that spirit in our heart and find our own way of making the universe a better place.
