The opportunity for kindness is abundant

EVEN A HOMELESS PERSON CAN BEROBIN4SOMEONE ~ Today I received a phone call from a 90 year woman, named Amy, who asked me “Can you help bring me my newspaper? My son is in Reno for a few days.” “Of course!” I said. When I delivered it, she asked “Can you take me to the pharmacy and to the post office?” “Of course!” I said.

This sweet lady is very frail and requires a walker. It took her 5 minutes to find money in her purse at the cash register. The pharmacist had the most interesting name tag. “Robin” (I smiled inside.)

When we got back to the car, we were having trouble getting her walking in the backseat. A man passing by noticed and asked “Can I help you?” “Thank you for asking.” I said. (Someone else practicing human kindness.)

I decided at that moment that I would give her my walker. I have NOT needed it for two years. I hope I never need it again. That was terrifying and extremely painful for months…. (I’m willing to bet far worse than childbirth.)

Since she doesn’t get out much I decided to take her on a joyride. I took her to see sculptures made by a very talented artist. There is a street here where nearly every house has a whimsical sculpture out front that is reflective of the personality of each home owner.

When we returned, I found a neighbor had stopped by and Amy wasn’t answering the door. Concerned her well-being, the neighbor called Amy’s family.

When I returned from our adventure together there were 3 people in the driveway looking panic stricken. They were relieved to know Amy was with me. (They were also practicing human kindness and the community vibe was very tangible.)

That’s my story for today and who knows what tomorrow will bring… more kindness I hope.

Walking on Sunshine ~ A music tribute

Be sure to see Mork’s conversation with Orson at the end.  It’s a classic!

This is a creation of this tribute video by Kathy Falcicchio.  She’s quite a talented video editor… good rhythm and great choice of clips!

Blame Canada, Robin Williams does South Park

In this South Park song the parents decided to blame Canada for the trouble their children have been getting into since watching the Canadian-made movie Terrance and Phillip: Asses of Fire and imitating what they saw and heard in the movie.

The parents refuse to accept that by not preventing their children from watching Terrance and Phillip in the first place, they are themselves to blame for their children’s misbehavior. “Blame Canada” satirizes scapegoating, and parents that do not control “their children’s consumption of popular culture”.

The song (BELOW) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song (1999). This created controversy, because all nominated songs are traditionally performed during the Oscar broadcast, but the song contained the word fuck, which the FCC prohibits using in prime time broadcasts. At the 72nd Academy Awards, Comedian Robin Williams performed the song with a chorus who gasped when the word was to be sung (Williams turned around at the crucial moment, and did not actually sing it).

Inspite of a great performance, The Academy Award was instead awarded to Phil Collins’ song “You’ll Be in My Heart” which was parodied on an episode of South Park released the following year, “Timmy 2000”, as “You’ll Be in Me”.

In that episode, Collins, who acts as the episode’s antagonist, was always seen holding his Oscar statuette. At the end of the episode, it gets painfully stuck up his rectum.

Don’t Worry Be Happy!

When this website was conceived in May of 2012, shortly after losing my home to a fire while severely handicapped, this video hit my radar and resonated very strongly with me.

Chris Reeve, Bobby McFerrin and Robin Williams goof off making a a music video from Bobby’s song “Don’t Worry Be Happy”

The dark side (This is freaking hilarious)

If you live on the dark side, you need therapy.

How is this relevant to Robin?  Well you will have to find out by watching.

Interview with John Ritter & Robin Williams (1977)

There are hundreds of great interviews to chose from.  We felt friends and family would most appreciate seeing Robin when he still had the aura of a youthful puppy.

Is this Robin’s legacy? ~ Oh the horror!!!

Ending of a romantic relationship or marriage in a respectful, positive, and constructive way is what Ms Doubtfire is all about.

The break-up process is not easy since each partner is at different stages of deciding on the dissolution and the acceptance of it.  The social consequences are significant because each partner has to redefine themselves independently of the other and with children this is more complex.

This film does a remarkable job at illustrating the emotional stages of this dynamic.  The children need both parents and any child that has experienced divorce knows the damage inflicted by lack of cooperation and angry words.

This film inspires more respectful separations for all parties and creates a possibility of emotional sanctuary in a reality we all hope for.

Robin and Marsha nurtured this film concept for years before it was produced.  It would not surprise me in the least if Robin actually did stuff like bringing zoo animals home and Marsha had to clean up after it.   He probably brought excitement to their life and she brought a practical approach that kept the train from falling off the tracks.  (He did some of his best work with her.)

That works GREAT for everyone… til it doesn’t work anymore.  It’s a really complex thing to really understand how that can happen… but IF THERE IS LOVE, THOSE ARE THE TIES THAT BIND AND YOU WILL HAVE A FAMILY IN YOUR HEART FOREVER.

Robin has a wild sense of humor and I think he would appreciate the creative fan tribute below.  Mrs Doubtfire was re-intepreted by changing the soundtrack and selectively choosing text to emphasize.

RESULT = I was shocked and laughed my ass off.

Comedy Day San Francisco 2011

Comedy Day is a an SF legend since 1981.  Every year they wonder how the funds will be scraped together to offer a free day of Comedy to Day to thousands of people.  This year it is on September 18th, 12-5.

Somehow it happens, but they always need event sponsors to keep it going and cover event production costs.  Please contact if you want to support them at http://comedyday.org

Share the love please and support people that sometimes use WORDS AND IDEAS TO CHANGE THE WORLD and be a total nutball the rest of the time.

Robin Williams and Rick Overton at Comedy Day San Francisco 2011.  They’ve riffed together for who knows how many years and they are so fun to watch play together!
